my cup runneth over...

literally, my cup ran over this morning.  it couldn't be a more beautiful day, the surf is just about perfect, and the sun is shining.  i took a short walk on the beach and found a plastic cup at the beginning of my walk.  i ended up filling it up with litter...mostly cigarette butts....(37) in a very short amount of time.
other items i found were plastic bags, a straw, a pacifier, a shotgun shell, gum wrappers and other various items....but mostly...you guessed it!....cigerette butts.
this is a problem ....and it comes with many concerns.
danielle is constantly out here picking up litter (mostly cigerette butts) and continues to document her progress.  check out her blog and all the work she does to help make this beautiful beach of ours clean for us all to enjoy.

my new moleskine journal came in the mail!!  i am so happy to have this new journal to play in and couldn't wait to spill a little paint on the first pages.

and here's one i'm working on for my niece.  she will be 18 soon and i wanted to make her something special for her birthday~

and a few of my journal pages that i'm working on....mostly putting down a little color and i'll get to the writing and more collage soon.....it's always a working progress and i love having lots of pages going at once.  i work best that way.

have a beautiful day~

sunday morning journal making~

HELLO!

this morning i had a few friends over and we  made teesha moore's amazing   16 page journal.
as always, we had a great time just getting together in my studio, "heART space".  this journal is so easy to make, and fun to work in.

i love making my own journals and this is one i will make again and again....probably adding a few more pages next time.  here is the 2nd part of the journal instructions.  we used the fabriano paper that she recommends AND i ordered the waxed thread from her site...it all worked out great.

melissa manley....working in her new journal!!

JUDY WISE teaching at heART space~~~~

Click on the link above (CLASS SITE) for all the information about
the upcoming journaling retreat with JUDY WISE.

birthday wishes DO come true!

first of all, this very old mailbox is my birthday gift from my husband....
SO cool.  i just love it and i love the significance of it, since i'm a little
old fashioned and still like to write letters and send snail mail.... :)
inside the box was a gift certificate for a massage at my favorite spa!
anyway, between that VERY special gift and the sweet gifts from my girls...
(a candle and heart shaped dish and handpicked dandelions and wildflowers),
and the time i spent with them,  it was a very special day.

secondly.......some of you may have read that i had a birthday wish and would share more
if it came true.....and it DID!!!!  i couldn't be more excited to share this news and
cannot even wait until september........

HERE is an interview i did with "do what you love for life" a while back.....
my birthday wish was to put that little dream into action and actually
invite JUDY WISE to come to wilmington and teach in my special "heART space".
i am so happy to tell you that she said YES to my invitation and will be teaching a
2 day art retreat here in september!!  i know, pretty crazy and amazing huh?!
i will post all the information as we iron out the details and i already have a few of the spaces filled.
to say that i'm excited doesn't even begin to tell you how i am feeling right now.  she is such
an inspiration to so many of us and i have loved and followed her blog for so long now.
her on-line classes are so fulfilling and i can't wait to meet her in person.
YAY me!........if you are on the east coast and are interested in attending, stay tuned for
all the details!!!

my birthday journal page.....

(mixed media on watercolor paper finished with beeswax)

"memorize her face, her skin, her touch, her voice.
listen closely to all that she has to tell you.  be there
when you are with her. embrace time with her and cherish it.
memorize it all....one day that is all that is left~ just a memory."

Indian Prayer

"O GREAT SPIRIT,
whose voice I hear in the winds,
And whose breath gives life to all the world,
hear me. I am small and weak, I need your strength and wisdom.

Let me walk in beauty, and make my eyes
ever behold the red and purple sunset.

Make my hands respect then things you have
made and my ears sharp to hear your voice.

Make me wise so that I may understand the
things you have taught my people.

Let me learn the lessons you have hidden
in every leaf and rock.

I seek strength not to be greater than my
brother, but to fight my greatest enemy-myself.

Make me always ready to come to you with
clean hands and straight eyes.

So when life fades, as the fading sunset,
my spirit may come to you without shame."

i have filled this handmade journal and my others too....so this weekend, i will
be going to teesha moore's amazing journal video and making that!  i'll let you know how it
turns out!!
happy spring~

cherishing memories

i was checking in with jen gray this morning ...(i love her blog)~
and ran across this blog.  reading this really makes me want to go somewhere!

i just realized how quickly the flowers in these pots came back to life.  it's so awesome that every spring they come back and just keep giving and giving. the succulents will be full of blooms in about a month......  the little bird statue was my mom's....(cherish)~

i've been playing in journals a lot lately, but somehow feel like i'm stuck....i have so many journals and i have been going back and forth, prepping a page here and there, so that when i'm more inspired i can come back to it.  i love using the hand-carved stamps for backgrounds.....

i've been doing a lot of writing over writing....it's a great way to get things out and down on the page without anyone being able to read it.  AND i like the way it looks...

i have a secret birthday wish and if it comes true i will share it here~
(fingers crossed)!!!

"patient love grows strong"

hand-carved stamps

"art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life."
       picasso

"on the verge of a memory, floating on the vessel of my soul"

with my birthday coming up on the 8th, i have been consumed with memories of my mom.  she was the best at celebrating my birthday with me....i have so many awesome memories of us together and  this time of year i start to miss her more and more and wish so much that she was here to celebrate with me now.~
sigh~~~~~~~
